I had two formative events in my youth that led me down the path of being an artist. The first was that my mother could knit really fast. She was always making things and taught me the pleasure of working with my hands. The second was when my father told me never to work for someone else. I learned that if you wanted to be happy in life you will need to forge your own path. Luckily this is what artists do well.
I make paintings because I believe it is still one of the most important personal and political acts a person can do.
